    W. J. A. (Wilfred Joseph Allan) Allsop, clerk, of Mosman, Sydney was born in Flemington, Melbourne, 11 April 1893. He enlisted at Liverpool aged 22, 12 August 1915 and embarked from Melbourne on HMAT SS Ascanius A11, 10 Oct. 1915. He was a stretcher bearer and despatch rider for the 8th Australian Field Ambulance, serving in Egypt and France. He returned to Australia on the Sardinia, 19 April 1919. He died on the 9 November 1956.

    1. Group portrait of Australian Field Ambulance. Wilfred Joseph Allan Allsop is on the motorbike on the right.
    “Photo of ‘A’ Section Australian Field Ambulance. Taken somewhere in France, September 1917. I ride both the Douglas and the ‘Triumph’ Cycles. The other chap being Spare Despatch Rider. Bradley, who face is marked with the white blot, was killed yesterday 21/9/17. W.J.A. Allsop” – inscribed on verso.

    2. Three unidentified despatch riders on motorbikes. No inscription or date.

    3. Group portrait of men dressed as clowns.
    “Our concert party trading as ‘The Nightbirds’ who have been running concerts periodically for 12 months. Photo taken somewhere in France, September 1917. I don’t know who the artist is who put the other marks on this card”. “Les oiseaux de nuit 10.9.17”. – inscribed on verso.

Wilfred Joseph Allan Allsop is on the motorbike on the left. “Men of our original ‘A’ Section who are still with us after nearly two years’ service. The bird on the ‘Triumph’ motorbike is W.J.A. Allsop. Photo taken somewhere in France, September 1917” – inscribed on verso.

    6. Portrait of W.J.A. Allsop on a motorbike. “France 11th February 1918. With apologies for this poor attempt and love to all at Ridding House, from Allan” – inscribed on verso.

    7. Soldier's pay book for use on active service. Army book 64. Sydney: The Kingston Press, 38-42 Oxford St. Label on cover: W.J.A. Allsop, No. 6777, Unit 8 Field Ambulance. Stamped: reconciled.

    8. Ticket of leave. Paris leave from 24/11/17 to 27/11/17 for A.J.A. Allsop dated 21 November 1917.

    9. Permission to visit Paris from 24/11/17 to 27/11/17 dated 23 November 1917. 8th Australian Field Ambulance.
