    F. W. Roberts, orchardist of Upper Hawthorn, Victoria enlisted 23 Feb. 1916 aged 27 years. He embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT A11 Ascanius, 11 May 1917. While serving with the 21st Battalion, 6th Brigade, 2nd Division of the Australian Imperial Force, commanded by Major-General Charles Rosenthal, he was killed in the attack on Mont St Quentin, France on Sunday, 1 Sept. 1918
  • Scope and Content
    Copies of extracts from his diary, 1 July - 30 Aug. 1918 and from letters to his wife, 9 July - 23 Aug. 1918. Includes papers re his active service in France, as a private in the 21st Battalion, including photograph of Roberts and poems. Also includes a newspaper cutting re the proposed memorial of the Mont St Quentin attack
