    Sir John Northcott, 1890-1966 was governor of New South Wales, 1946-1957 and Administrator of the Commonwealth, 1951, 1956. He served in World War I, studied at Staff College, Camberley, England, 1924-1925 and at the Imperial Defence College, 1935. He became Chief of General Staff in 1942 and Commander in Chief, British Commonwealth Occupation Forces in Japan, 1945
