    John Albert Giles, 2nd Steward with Union Steamship Co., New Zealand, enlisted at Warwick Farm, 7 Sept. 1915 and served as a private with the 53rd Battalion, 14th Brigade. John Giles embarked on the troopship A 15 Star of England in Mar. 1916 and served in Egypt and from June 1916 in France, where he was reported missing in action 28 July 1916 and officially reported prisoner of war 12 Aug. 1916. He remained in German prison camps, mainly Schneidemuhl, until November 1918 when he was repatriated to England. He returned to Australia April 1919. His brother, Clyde Giles also served in the A.I.F., with the 1st Battalion, 9th Reinforcement
