    The Desert Mounted Corps was created in June 1917 from three Cavalry Divisions of the so called Desert Column. It was finally broken up 7 June 1919
  • Collection history
    Presented 9 March 1922. Accessioned at MLMSS 575, 25 June 1968, "From Soldiers' Diaries Collection" (Manuscripts accession card index). The ML donations register for 1922 (ML 203) has an entry dated 9 March for a donation from "Miss Austin, S.M.H. offices Hunter Street. Typescript, Australian Light Horse in the Great War. 1 MS". Fanny May Austin was the first librarian at John Fairfax & Sons (Kudrna, S. "Books, what books?". NLS 08 – New Librarians Symposium: Breaking Barriers. Melbourne, 5–6 December 2008. Accessed at conferences.alia.org.au/newlibrarian2008/Papers/Kudrna.doc‎, 2 December 2013). Austin is incorrectly spelled "Austen" in the ML Manuscripts accession register and accession card index, and in the donor bookplate in MLMSS 575. No in-letters or out-letters relating to this donation are found in the relevant records at ML 78, ML 84, and ML 11.
