  Private J. J. Brewster, a commercial traveller of Paddington, Sydney served with the 56th Battalion, 14th Brigade, 5th Division in France and Belgium. He enlisted at Casula aged 44, 29 Nov. 1915 and embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A15 Star Of England, 8 Mar. 1916. He was wounded in action in France 20 July 1916 and sent to England for hospital treatment, returned to France in late 1916 and repatriated to Australia on HMAT A33 Ayrshire with 'trench foot', 23 May 1917
• Scope and Content
  An amended version of an earlier account. Describes training at Liverpool, N.S.W., the Liverpool Riots, voyage to Egypt on the Star of England, training camps in Egypt, journey to Marseilles and across France and trench warfare in France and Belgium. Includes hospital treatment in England after being wounded, return to France, further military activities in France and Belgium, treatment for 'trench foot' in France and England and return to Australia aboard hospital ship Ayrshire
