    Objects - 1 hat, machine stitched, made of grey [wool?] felt, adorned around circumference with wide dark grey-black petersham ribbon with bow at one side, faded black petersham ribbon trim on outer edge of brim, and brown leather sweat band inside. - 18.5 x Max Diam. 32 cm.

  • General note

    A brown cloth manufacturer's label is sewn to the underside of the hat on the crown.
    Moth holes are evident on the hat.
    A note authenticating the ownership of this hat written by Mary Gilmore is filed at PXn 719. It states that the hat was given to Mary Gilmore by Mrs Isabel Byers, Henry Lawson's housekeeper.
    In the 1940's, Mary Gilmore gave the hat to Miss Smith's stepfather, Mr Tal Ordell.
    This item has been digitised as part of the Nelson Meers Foundation Benefaction, 2002.
