  • General note

Title devised by cataloguer, Mar 2004, previously titled "Photographs of aborigines in the Lismore district" (Pictures Card Catalogue).

The photographer of numbers 1, 3 & 4 was probably Conrad Wagner.
The following article appeared in the Clarence & Richmond Examiner, 31 October 1865. "Views of the Richmond River. - We have been favoured with a sight of some very fine photographic views of the Richmond River, taken by our townsman - Mr. Conrad Wagner - who is at present on a visit to that district, and will remain there for about three weeks longer. The views before us are the works of a real artist, as is evident at a glance. We would recommend our Richmond River friends who may be desirous of having a view of any portion of their fine river not to let slip an opportunity like the present, but avail themselves of the services of Mr. Wagner, who we feel sure will not fail to give every satisfaction even to the most fastidious, either in the execution of views or portraits of themselves and their friends." (p.2)
"PHOTOGRAPHY. MR. WAGNER, begs to notify to the public that he will be absent from Grafton, about three weeks, taking views of the various stations on the Richmond River." (p.3).
