    1 portrait medallion - White on mauve (or lilac) dipped jasper ware medallion, stored in deeply set oval wooden frame with glass front, gilt inner border, and painted gold outer edge with decorative edges - 16 x 14.4 x 3.3 cm. frame

    The portrait is modelled from John Flaxman Jnr's. visual rendering of Sir Joseph Banks, ca. 1775.

    The medallion is similar to portraits of Sir Joseph Banks held in the Mitchell Library (P*31, P*33 black basalt ware, P*35, P*55, P*61) and those located in the Dixson Galleries collection (DL Pa 97 black basalt ware, DL Pa 98 black basalt ware, DL Pa 99 and DL Pa 100). The frame is also of a similar style to that of the portrait medallions located at P*31 and DL Pa 99.

    This medallion is a companion piece to the portrait medallion of Lady Dorothea Banks held in the Mitchell Library (P*36).
