  • General note

    An Aboriginal reserve and Church of England mission was established at Mission Bay, near Cairns in 1892 and many children from indigenous families throughout Cape York and western Queensland were taken there. This is the mission classroom at Yarrabah, with Ernest Gribble, son of the founder and his assistant Mr. Pearson, teaching a class. Hardie copyrighted this image, along with seven others taken in Australia, on behalf of G.W.Wilson & Co. in London in 1899.
