  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    John Mitchel was born in County Derry, Ireland in 1815. In 1848 he and other leaders of the Young Ireland movement were convicted of treason and sentenced to transportation. Mitchel arrived in Hobart in 1850 and a year later was joined by his wife and children.
