    Private Thomas John McKinley, a cycle tyre vulcaniser of Melbourne, Vic. was born in Greenponds, Tasmania. He enlisted with the 8th Battalion, 6th Reinforcement, A.I.F at Broadmeadows Camp in Melbourne on March 8, 1915. McKinley's unit embarked from Port Melbourne on board HMAT A62 Wandilla on 17 June 1915. He served in Egypt, the Dardanelles, France and Belgium and was killed in action in Belgium, 11 Sept. 1916.
  • Scope and Content
    The 3 diaries describe McKinley's journey to Egypt aboard the S.S. Wandilla June 17-July 15, 1915, his experiences in Egypt July 16-Aug. 3, 1915, in the Dardanelles Aug. 4-22, 1915 and in France and Belgium, 1916, including treatment for wounds and enteric fever in Lemnos, Malta and England.
