    Private J. O. Maddox, law clerk of Eastwood, was born in Balmain, New South Wales and enlisted aged 19, on 11 May 1915. He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT RMS Moldavia, 2 Oct. 1915 and served as a stretcher bearer with 1st Field Ambulance, Australian Imperial Forces, returning to Australia on 1 May 1919
