  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Captain Ralph Ingram Moore, M.C., D.C.M., a mining engineer of Summer Hill, Sydney was born in Armidale, New South Wales. He enlisted at the age of 26 as a private in 3rd Australian Infantry Battalion, A.I.F. Sept. 1914 and embarked from Sydney on the troopship Euripides, 20 Oct. 1914. He served in Gallipoli, 1915-1916 and in France, 1917. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for exceptional courage at Gaba Tepe, Gallipoli in Apr. 1915, and the Military Cross, Apr. 1916. He was killed in action in Belgium 7 Oct. 1917.
    Eric Moore, his brother, was a wireless operator on S. S. Euripides and served on other ships, later transferring to the Naval Air Service.
