    W. H. Nicholson, a boundary rider of Bonshaw, New South Wales was born in Queenscliff, Victoria and enlisted in Inverell, New South Wales aged 18, 19 Aug. 1915. He embarked from Sydney on board RMS Osterley, 15 Jan. 1916 and served as a private with the 2nd Company, 3rd Battalion of the 1st Brigade, A.I.F. He returned to Sydney on the Kenilworth Castle, 23 May 1918 and was discharged as medically unfit for further service on 22 Nov. 1918
