    Private Marsh, a railway employee from Wynnum, Queensland, enlisted at the age of 20, 19 Apr. 1916 and embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A64 Demosthenes, 22 Dec. 1916. He served as a signaller with the 47th Battalion in France and Belgium. He was killed in action in Belgium, 12 Oct. 1917

    A diary in the form of a letter to his friend Bob, written on board the troopship Demosthenes on the voyage from Brisbane to Plymouth
