ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Stanley Dewhurst, clerk of Mosman, Sydney was born in Crookwell, New South Wales and enlisted in the A.I.F. aged 22, 14 Feb. 1916. He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A60 Aeneas, 30 Sept. 1916 and served with the Howitzer Brigade 116 and 3rd Army Field Artillery Brigade in France. He returned to Australia on HT Pakeha, 24 Nov. 1919
His brother Vivian Dewhurst served with the 4th Field Artillery Brigade on the Western Front and returned to Australia 3 May 1919
Scope and Content
Diary, probably written in England in 1917, of his experiences in France and Belgium after arriving at Calais in Jan. 1917, including events in camp, duties as driver, bombardments and gas attacks and an accident while transporting ammunitions followed by hospitalisation in England.
With one postcard from Stanley Dewhurst to his mother Mrs A. Dewhurst at Mosman, postmarked 26 November 1916 at Salisbury, UK.
